Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas or simply "Santa", bring gifts to the homes of the good children during the late evening and overnight hours of Christmas Eve, December 24. According to a tradition, Santa Claus lives at the North Pole, with a large number of magical elves, and nine flying reindeer. The NRP Sagres was launched under the name Albert Leo Schlageter on 30 October 1937 at Blohm & Voss in Hamburg for the German navy.
The ship is a steel-built three masted barque and can reach a top speed of 17 knots (31 km/h) under sail. Known as Sagres III, the NRP Sagres is a school ship of the Portuguese Navy since 1961.

The ship served as a merchant vessel (the last clipper to be built for that purpose), and then as a training ship until being put on public display in 1954. The Cutty Sark is preserved in dry dock in Greenwich, London.
