Douglas F5D Skylancer

Douglas F5D Skylancer

The United States Douglas F5D Skylancer was developed as an all-weather interceptor under the designation F4D-2N. The first flight was on 21 April 1956 and was supersonic.  Only four of the 19 evaluation aircraft were actually built, all of them fitted with the J57 engine. The Navy was acquiring the new Vought F8U Crusader in parallel and the Skylancer program was cancelled.
