The Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Turkish: Sultan Ahmet Camii) is a historical mosque in the capital of Turkey, Istanbul. It was built between 1609 and 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I, on the site of The Great Palace of Constantinople. The mosque is popularly known as the Blue Mosque for the blue handmade ceramic tiles adorning the walls of its interior, in more than 50 different tulip designs.
